(Washington, DC) - BALAREZO LAW is pleased to announce that it has been retained as lead trial counsel for Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman. Mr. Guzman is currently pending trial in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, where he is charged with narcotics trafficking offenses in a 17-count indictment. Trial is scheduled to begin April 16, 2018, and is expected to last approximately three to four months.

The trial court denied Mr. Balarezo’s motion and ruled that the government did not need a warrant. The GPS evidence was a significant factor in Mr. Jones’ conviction. However, The Supreme Court of the United States in United States v. Jones unanimously ruled that the warrantless use of GPS devices to track suspects is unconstitutional.
